After IHS graduation, I attended Upsala College in East Orange and West Virginia University where I received a Masters in organic chemistry. After college graduation I was a coating chemist for FMC in Philadelphia, PA and an industrial silicone research chemist for GE in Albany-Schenectady, NY. In 1970 my wife Sigrid and I with our 1 year old daughter, moved to Houston where I worked in specialty chemical sales for Georgia Pacific and Cincinnati Milacron. In 1975 I embarked on a new career into commercial real estate. Today we own 15 buildings - mostly retail shopping centers, along with an office building, industrial project and commercial land. We own, manage, and lease all of our properties.
My wife passed away in July 2008 from cancer. I have been blessed to have found a wonderful woman, Penny, who has filled the void in my life. I remain very active in life and our business.
My daughter Christine and son Kevin both attended University of Texas and my son Jeff attended Texas A & M University. Christine also received her MBA from University of Houston and worked on Wall Street for Morgan Stanley for 10 years. She has recently transplanted back here to Houston to work for our company. She has given us a grandson, Connor, who is now 6. My son Kevin, who lives in Austin is in sales for Kodak in their medical equipment division and is expecting their first child later this year. My youngest son, Jeff lives here in Houston.
Our family spends time at our lake house in Conroe, TX where we enjoy boating and water skiing. Over the years we have traveled extensively throughout Europe and Egypt. I’ve also enjoyed countless cruises throughout the Caribbean. I’m also a frequent visitor to Cancun and Playa del Carmen, Mexico.
Recently I’ve purchased another vacation home in Colorado, 9250 feet above sea level where the air is crisp and fresh. I’m a patron of the fine arts, but I also enjoy attending rock concerts. My children say I’m a kid at heart. I have been very blessed in my life and like to give back to the community.

Having started out to study Electrical Engineering, I realized that I was finding physics much more interesting. So I switched, and ended up with a BS in Engineering Physics and an MS in Physics (including a minor in mathematics). For the next three decades, I worked as an industrial physicist. The atmosphere was conducive to ideas, resulting in some patents (necessarily assigned to the companies that employed me, so I didn’t get to produce the devices) and publications. Presenting the results of my work at symposia also provided opportunities for international travel.
Later I moved into management, and was lucky enough to get a position in which I could keep my hand in the technical areas while also guiding all the other aspects of a project.
As satisfying as the above work was, I was also fascinated by computers and took that up as a sort of on-the-job hobby. Eventually I joined the US Treasury and spent the final decade before retirement examining large financial data centers and bank computer systems.
I retired in 2000, and after devoting the first three months of retirement entirely to sloth, I began teaching English as a second language at a women’s center in a nearby inner city. I also taught computers at an all-volunteer senior center, where after a year I was cajoled into also becoming President (or as I preferred to call it, “Main Stuckee”). I did that for six years and then decided that it was time for someone else with different ideas, but I agreed to continue maintaining the organization's Web site and temporarily continue publishing the monthly newsletter.
As an additional activity, I read stories to schoolchildren.
My wife and I have two daughters. We divide our time between our house in a rural area of New Jersey near where my volunteer work is located, and our apartment in Manhattan, near her volunteer work. We have a Web site, www.franandbill.net, that contains photographs you might enjoy looking at. |

I spent over 34 years with IBM in
14 locations, developing computer systems as the lead architect
on three systems. I retired as a Senior Programmer in 1995 and have
been very active since. Currently, I am a substitute teacher in
the Yorktown and Mahopac School Systems. I also am President of

own careers.
I am actively organizing a new group of interesting and
talented people. This group is called Club WEStchester. We have also formed the WEStchester Book Club as part of this new venture. This activity is centered in southern New York state.
